Tallent v. Pilot Travel Center

$68,500 verdict – Oct. 2014. Two arthroscopic surgeries: shoulder tear plus aggravation of knee arthritis.

Facts: Diesel spill near pumps of a Flying J truck stop near Tampa. Prior trucker had overfilled his truck with diesel fuel, causing a spill 15-20 minutes before. Apparently the court felt this was enough for actual or constructive notice required under 768.0755. But plaintiff knew about the spill, had walked through the area several times, and the defendant had placed barrels to barricade the area. Defendant also reported that it takes 30-60 minutes to clean diesel spills using an oil absorbent. Jury found plaintiff 35% responsible, so award was reduced that percentage.

Christian v. Venetian Condo

$288,030.00 verdict – Jury verdict / Sept. 2014. Broward County. DOA: Aug 2011.

Plaintiff slipped and fell due to a slippery substance on the parking garage floor at the Venetian Condominium in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Plaintiff suffered unspecified personal injuries. Unknown facts regarding details re: the slippery substance. Breakdown: $39,029.72 for past medical expenses, $100,000 for past pain & suffering, and $150,000 for future pain & suffering.

Cohen v. Renaissance Hotel

$770,121 verdict – DOA: July 2010. Miami-Dade County.

The Plaintiff slipped and fell on a wet and slippery wooden deck near a pool at A Renaissance Resort & Spa in Miami, Florida. He sustained injuries to his shoulder, neck, back, mouth and wrist as a result (the extent of his injuries & treatment is unknown). The defendant alleged that there were three yellow warning cones on the deck. The jury found that the plaintiff was 50% responsible and the defendant was 50% responsible.

The most dangerous room in your house is the bathroom. Hard surface flooring and an aging New York population create a dangerous combination! Especially the young and elderly are at risk. Bathtubs and showers are obviously very dangerous when they are not slip resistant.

Slip Stoppers offers a simple and inexpensive method for treating any type of slippery surface, reducing the likelihood of slip and fall accidents.

Our four step process prioritizes safety at your business, while keeping costs affordable:

1 Identification

Discuss known issues with owner / management team. Conduct a walkthrough to determine and validate, through visualization, potential slip and fall hazards and risks. Any surface can be a potential slip and fall hazard.

2 Testing

Utilizing the ASM 825A Slip Meter, we test identified areas to determine the Static Coefficient of Friction (SCOF). As noted prior, ADA Guidelines recommends a SCOF of 0.60 and higher. A typical floor falls between 0.25 – 0.50.

3 Treatment

We increase the traction by producing a “micro-tread” on your slippery surface. Problem areas are treated using a proprietary three-step process, which results in an increased SCOF of 0.75 or more.

4 Follow-up

We will schedule two follow-ups in six month intervals (included in the service) to re-test treated areas to ensure proper traction remains.

The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) recommends that a level walkway has a (SCOF) of 0.6 or higher in order to be considered safe. An inclined walkway or ramp, should have a (SCOF) of 0.8 or higher, to be considered safe.

After we treat your surface, we provide you with an attorney approved document showing the Static Coefficient of Friction rating (slipperiness level). In the event that an accident occurs, and your floor is slip resistant and has a Static Coefficient of Fraction of over 0.60, then you have legal documentation that you did everything necessary to prevent slip and fall accidents.

Fiberglass & Acrylic

Want to prevent slips and falls in your showers and bathtubs? Our exclusive, clear, durable, slip-resistant coating for fiberglass and acrylic bathtubs and showers is the answer. It is a non-yellowing formula that dries quickly to a hard finish to keep safety at its peak!

Epoxy

Slip-resistant epoxy coatings are ideal for many surfaces, including garages and outdoor surfaces.

Tile Etching

Let Slip Stoppers treat your tile with our microscopic etching that creates spikes in the tile that you cannot see. This drastically increase the friction of your tile surface with no change in appearance. Since this is not a coating, it will not wear off and is a permanent solution.

Treatment is complete and ready to be walked on in 15 minutes. There is no cure time as this is not a coating. Our microscopic tile etching increases the coefficient of friction rating giving you as much traction on a wet floor as you do a dry floor.
